1) Must be 17 years of age or older.
2) There is absolutely NO contact. Rub-outs and picks are considered checking and will be penalized.
3) Because we want participants to keep playing instead of having a face off every 3 minutes…off sides and icings are called with a degree of forgiveness. DO NOT complain to the referee about off sides and icings.
4) Any contact with a stick to another player’s body above the waist is high-sticking. This includes contact with the elbow pads and gloves.
5) Any contact to ANY part of a player’s body while going in to the corners or boards will be called checking and a minor or major penalty will be called. (In adult hockey there is no checking and it warrants a penalty) Contact includes a slight bump to the back with a hand. Safety needs to be a priority throughout the game.
6) Forget all the dirty tricks and “cheat” moves you’ve learned in your years of hockey. There is no room for them in this league
7) Minor penalties are 3 minutes in length; major penalties are 10 minutes in length due to the running clock.
8) If you feel you are being checked, slashed, high sticked, or are having other penalties committed against you, ask the official to watch for it. Do not retaliate because “he did it to me first.”
9) “Dropping the gloves” is NEVER an option here. If you are involved in a fight you will be suspended for at least 2 games. A second fight will result in suspension from the league with no refund or credit given.
10) All other rules involved in ice hockey are in place. If you are unsure of the rules regarding this game….feel free to ask someone.
11) Required equipment for skaters include roller hockey blades and helmet all other equipment is optional although strongly suggested.
12) All goalies must be protected this includes shin, chest, arms and face but skates are not required.
13) Remember: We’re all hockey players but, first and foremost we are students, fathers, Doctors, Attorneys, sons, brothers, Coaches, Fast Food workers, Computer Specialists, and a host of other jobs in the work force. No game that you are involved in while playing AREC Hockey is worth missing a day of work or missing a class the next day. So let’s play smart, make some friends, break a sweat and enjoy the game we all love.
